Many people have difficulty understanding what a mental health problem is, what symptoms occur and when it is time to seek help. There are various mental health disorders, but one of the most common problems in our fast-moving, increasingly isolated world is depression. Depression affects more than 250 million people worldwide, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the American Psychiatric Association.
Left untreated, this mental illness can have devastating short- and long-term consequences. There is no single cure for depression, but with the right treatment and care it is possible to improve your condition and even achieve a full recovery.
However, the most common symptoms of depression include a loss of interest in activities that you have experienced before. In addition, depression affects many other aspects of your life, such as your work, relationships, and physical health. Physical effects include headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, muscle pain and pain in muscles and joints. There is no cure for depression, only treatment for mental illness and the right treatment.
It is easy to ignore the many symptoms of depression and neglect the importance of mental health, especially in the wake of the tragic events.
Remember, even if it feels scary or unsafe, treating your mental health can be a great gift for yourself or a family member who suffers from depression.
